{"id":147,"date":"2013-12-23T15:51:34","date_gmt":"2013-12-23T04:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.icemoonprison.com\/blog\/?p=147"},"modified":"2013-12-23T15:51:34","modified_gmt":"2013-12-23T04:51:34","slug":"map-of-mordant-from-stephen-donaldsons-mordants-need","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.icemoonprison.com\/blog\/archives\/147","title":{"rendered":"Map of Mordant from Stephen Donaldson&#8217;s &#8220;Mordant&#8217;s Need&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here at Ice Moon Prison we have strong opinions about what constitutes a fantasy novel.\u00a0 One aspect that is non-negotiable is that it has to have a map.\u00a0 So we were disappointed while rereading Stephen Donaldson&#8217;s <em>Mordant&#8217;s Need<\/em> that it does not ship with a map.\u00a0 This omission is peculiar, because clearly the author <em>had<\/em> a map while he was writing the story: there are many often quite detailed descriptions of the land&#8217;s geography. So we set ourselves the task of annotating every geographic statement in the novel.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As it happens, the geography in <em>Mordant&#8217;s Need<\/em> is internally consistent, and it&#8217;s possible to produce a map that satisfies the constraints stated in the book.
